Frequently asked questions

What is StarDo?

StarDo is a task planner and task manager built right into Telegram: the @StarDoBot bot plus an app that opens inside the messenger. You write down a task, set a deadline and back it with a promise in Telegram Stars, so things stop getting put off again and again.

Is there a to-do list app right inside Telegram?

Yes. StarDo works inside Telegram on your phone and your computer, with nothing to install. Just open @StarDoBot and tap “Start.”

Is StarDo free?

Yes. There's nothing to pay upfront: as long as you make your deadlines, your Stars stay with you. You only pay what you promised if you miss one. If you need more, there's StarDo Plus, and the first 7 days are free.

How is StarDo different from a regular to-do list?

On a regular list, it's easy to push a task back one more time. In StarDo, every task has a promise to yourself behind it, which makes it easier to see things through. And every promise you keep lights up a star in your sky.

How does a promise in Telegram Stars work?

You create a task, then pick a deadline and how many Stars you promise, starting at 5. Make the deadline and you pay nothing. Miss it and you pay what you promised.

What happens if I miss a deadline?

The bot lets you know the deadline has passed, and you get 48 hours to pay. Pay, and your honor rating won't drop. Don't, and it will, but your tasks and your sky stay with you.

Will I get reminders about my tasks?

Yes. The bot reminds you in Telegram before the deadline: 10 minutes, an hour, a day or a week ahead, whichever you choose.

Can I add tasks by voice?

Yes, with StarDo Plus. Tell the bot your tasks on the go: it works out what needs doing and by when, and adds the task for you.

Can I use StarDo for school and work?

Yes. You can sort tasks into projects like Study, Work and Home, tag them with labels, and see what's coming up in the calendar.

Who can see my tasks?

Only you. Task titles and notes are stored encrypted. Friends see nothing but a picture of your sky, and you can hide even that in Settings.

What's the point of the sky in StarDo?

Your sky shows everything you've achieved at a glance. Every task you finish on time lights up a star in it, and the bigger the promise, the bigger and brighter the star. Checkmarks on a to-do list are quickly forgotten, but stars stay: on a hard day, just open your sky and see how many promises you've already kept. Everyone's sky is their own and unlike anyone else's. If you break a promise and don't pay, its star doesn't vanish: it dims, and lights up again once you pay. Shooting stars streak across it, the northern lights sometimes appear, and you can share your sky to your Telegram story or show it to friends.

Can StarDo help me stop procrastinating?

Yes, that's exactly what StarDo is for. When a task has a deadline and a promise in Telegram Stars behind it, putting it off isn't so easy anymore: you've given yourself your word and backed it with Stars. The bot reminds you before the deadline, every finished task lights up a star, and you'll want to keep your sky growing. That's how procrastination gives way to the habit of getting things done.
